ABOUT ATELIER.NYC
A city is the sum of what people know how to make.
WHY THIS EXISTS
Search engines show businesses. ATELIER.NYC is designed to show capability.
New York still contains an extraordinary concentration of specialized knowledge: pattern making, stone setting, upholstery, millwork, ceramics, metal fabrication, printing, finishing, architecture, fragrance, photography and dozens of disciplines that rarely fit neatly into a generic business directory.
We document the people, places, processes and vocabulary behind that work. The goal is simple: make New York's creative infrastructure easier to discover without flattening it into a list of stars and reviews.
Editorial before algorithm.
Listings are reviewed. Sponsored relationships are labeled. Editorial stories are selected for relevance, process and point of view. ATELIER.NYC does not sell rankings disguised as recommendations.
EDITORIAL PRINCIPLES
Useful over exhaustive.
The index should help someone make a decision, not merely prove that many businesses exist.
Process over polish.
We care how the work is made, what the studio can do and where its expertise begins and ends.
New York means all five boroughs.
The city's creative economy does not stop at a familiar downtown map.
